I frequently see the same questions being asked over and over in this SUBREDDIT concerning which hero to buy first/next/etc. Additionally I see people asking concerning how tanks stack up (Is Obsidian worth it?) and more frequently who is better between two heroes (most commonly Efrigid v. Mabyn).I’ve replied to several of these threads but thought perhaps it better to make an all-encompassing guide from my opinion and guide new players. I know ’s guide was immensely helpful to me when I started, however it is no longer 100% up to date with the current game as it was released before Mabyn arrived on the scene. Thus while this guide will not go as in depth as did in breaking down hero abilities, etc. (as his great still largely stands true today), this will be more of a succinct FAQ that builds on ’s previous great work: THE HOLY TRINITYThese are the three best heroes in the game overall (in order) and why they are the greatest.
If you have the resources, these three are your default team as they will carry you to victory in any situation. Realistically though, if you are starting out, you will not be able to get the two best heroes in the game as they are locked behind World 3, however as soon as you are able to, buy them immediately. Without further ado, The Holy Trinity: HELIOS Helios is Smoulder but on steroids. The only way in which she lags behind Smoulder is in slight stopping power, but that is more than compensated by her ludicrous DPS. Helios ultimately does one thing, but does it better than any other unit in the game and by a massive margin. She kills units very fast.
When I first got Helios I was amazed by how fast she melted units. You don’t need stopping power when there are no enemy units alive to push a lane.
SETHOS In the world of tanking there is a clear disparity between the three. While all three are useful in their regards, it is largely unquestionable that Sethos Obsidian Lancelot. While nowhere near as impressive as Helios, Sethos damage is respectable for a tank (far greater than either other tank’s DPS), but more than anything what puts Sethos above all other tanks is his burrow ability. Even with Burrow’s recent stealth nerf, the ability to instantly appear wherever stoppage is needed, on top of a short cooldown, means Sethos will always be in the action at the most critical places. That mobility is what more than anything makes him superior to Obsidian. Obsidian is a wall, but Sethos is a mobile wall. MABYN While Sethos and Helios have very defined roles on your team, Mabyn is the jack of all trades (no pun intended).
Mabyn is not the best at any one thing, but she can do essentially EVERYTHING and she can do it well. Need a frequent Stun? Mabyn has got you covered.
Need anti-air bombs that nuke pesky fliers? Mabyn has got you covered. Need frequent fears? Mabyn has got you covered. Need respectable DPS on top of more fears on top of more damage on top of poison? Mabyn has got you covered. Do you want all of that in a hero that respawns incredibly fast upon death?by now you know has you covered.
I will elaborate even more so on Mabyn in next section (The Great Debate), but this should be enough to prove why Mabyn is so valuable. THE GREAT DEBATE: MABYN V. EFRIGIDMabyn is better than Efrigid. Let’s get that out in the open to begin with. While I know some will disagree with this statement, in my humble opinion, Mabyn’s superiority is unquestionable. In the above section I already elaborated in a general sense why Mabyn is so good and part of the Holy Trinity. Efrigid is a good hero, I do not want to diminish her in anyway, but her problem is that she is locked into a specific roll and cannot deviate from it.
She is a slow unit that stands in one place and slows and freezes that’s it. Even if we don’t take into account how Mabyn has greater versatility when compared to Efrigid, there is one thing, more than anything else, which makes Mabyn superior to Efrigid: Fear is unquestionably a superior CC ability in comparison to freeze. The reason being that fear essentially reverses time.
If you use Efrigid and she freezes targets, they stop for a few seconds and then continue on their way. However if you fear a target, it stops, turns around and goes backward for a few seconds. This is amazing in that aside from the fact it essentially doubles the time they are CC’d, as now the target has to retrace lost ground, but it can also push targets back into range of towers, troops or even a Meteor strike. On top of this Mabyn’s active fear (not even talking passive gift package fear) is essentially an instantaneous spell that can hit anywhere on the map, whereas Efrigid’s active frozen orb must travel and be properly aimed. This more than anything proves why Mabyn is superior, as above all else, fear is the best CC available in game. However as a warning: Due to the fact she can do so much, Mabyn requires more work and micromanagement than Efrigid (who just stands in one place and freezes things). Mabyn is a very fast unit so you will need to move her around the map to spawn bombs where most needed when your Defense starts leaking. However Mabyn will be the hero more than any other that will save the day and make the play that brings you back from the brink of a loss.
There is one dark and hidden downside to Mabyn though, which will be elaborated on more below: THE DUALITY CONTROVERSIESLet’s say you just unlocked Mabyn for the first time (congratulations, welcome to flavor country), then after leveling her up you notice with horror that in order to fully unlock all of her level two abilities you need to also purchase Obsidian. Controversies aside, I will try to answer objectively the question frequently asked – should I purchase Obsidian to unlock all of Mabyn’s Level 2 abilities? The answer is, if you have disposable gems – yes, however do you need to?
No.All the things that make Mabyn so amazing which I’ve described above, are present regardless of whether or not her abilities are level 1 or 2. Obviously, unquestionably, Level 2 abilities are superior to Level 1, but whether at level 1 or 2, she is still fast, she still fears, she still spawns bombs, she still stuns, etc.So if you have those disposable gems, I would say sure, get Obsidian for Mabyn’s Level 2 abilities (plus Obsidian has some uses, especially if he’s the Blessed Hero in the Weekly Tournament), however otherwise save your gems for Helios/Sethos/whatever is to come in World 4. TLDR (JUST TELL ME WHAT ORDER TO GET HEROES IN)As a disclaimer, this section is going to assume that if you are reading this, you are a mostly new F2P player who hasn’t unlocked World 3 and therefore this list will not take Helios/Sethos into account. If you CAN buy Helios/Sethos, then for the love of Pharaoh buy Helios/Sethos first. Also this isn't taking Blessed Status into count.
For those new players, every week in a tournament one hero is considered Blessed wherein they get buffed in essentially every area. This technically makes every hero useful sometime, however this guide is not taking that into account, rather just looking at every hero on an even playing field:1) SMOULDER – Now I’m sure you’re asking yourself – hey Nosajje, why not get Mabyn first?
Can I make a Hello Neighbor Hide and Seek pre-order on the official game’s site?A11. But the game’s version for Android or iOS slightly differs from the versions for the computer or Xbox One.Q10. Hide and seek video game. The current price is almost $30.Q11. What is the current Hello Neighbor Hide and Seek price on the Microsoft Store?A10.
After all you have her listed as part of the Holy Trinity and you have spent the last 10 minutes fawning all over her about how she’s the best hero since sliced bread. The reason being that while Mabyn is undoubtedly great, one thing you need more than anything else in this game is Anti-Air, and the two best units in the game at Anti-Air are Helios and Smoulder. Until you unlock Helios, there is no other hero that can perform that task better than Smoulder, hence why he must be the priority. Additionally, Smoulder is still a great unit. While outclassed by Helios, Smoulder is still fantastic and one of the best overall heroes.2) MABYN – See everything above for why Mabyn is awesome sauce.(As a Disclaimer – after getting Mabyn I would begin saving gems to buy Helios/Sethos, however if you are desperate to keep buying heroes for some reason, here is the order in which I would continue to get them)3) OBSIDIAN – Obsidian is a good tank, and better than Lancelot. The issue, as I elaborated on further above, is that Obsidian is the poor man’s Sethos. However Obsidian is undoubtedly an upgrade over Lancelot.
Additionally as mentioned on above, Obsidian will unlock Level 2 Abilities for Mabyn.4) EFRIGID – She is a great hero and very useful in almost all situations (vastly superior to any 1500 gem hero), the problem of course is that Mabyn is better. Also Efrigid will unlock Level 2 Abilities for Smoulder (and vice versa)5) BOLTON – He is in a waythe poor man’s Efrigid/Mabyn. If you need a cheap semi DPS/semi CC unit, Bolton can sort of/maybe get the job done. However Efrigid and Mabyn are just overall vastly superior to him in every way. Back when I started and was ignorant of the game I bought Bolton firstand that was a mistake I regret.6) CONNIE – Her DPS is negligible, however her bunny spawns can help stop break away units and to plug a weakening line. She is a useful unit in a way, and is unique in that no other hero can spawn as many units as she can in a pinch, but she ultimately suffers the same fate as Bolton – that Efrigid and Mabyn essentially do the same thing (stop units) and do it exponentially better.7) MASAMUNE – He’s really kind of bad. His teleport ability can be useful and his shadow clones are cute, but really he just doesn’t bring enough to the table.
He’s too fragile and while his DPS isn’t horrific, it doesn’t justify him being on your team.8) HOGAN – He’s just bad. You shouldn’t get Hogan. He has no stopping power and horrible HP. He is DPS on a stick. However the saddest thing about Hogan is that the only thing he is supposed to do: DPS, he’s not even that great at.
The reason his best friend is a pig is because this hero is garbage. The reason I personally ranked Obsidian better than Lancelot as, for standalone purposes, Obsidian is better at doing their assigned role: I.E. Lancelot's activated ability is better, however his ability is largely dependent on having an appropriate number of foot soldiers to impact. I'm not as impressed by Lancelot's heal, but his active almost brings to Obsidian's level (but not quite in my opinion) Personally 9/10 I would rather have Obsidian, but Lancelot can get the job.As to Efrigid v. Obsidian, I agree this was the toughest decision, and honestly they could be interchangeable. On an objective level, I think Efrigid is a superior hero to Obsidian, the issue is, assuming someone follows this guide to the letter, then they first got Smoulder and Mabyn.
What would be the better option next? More CC, or a tank? Honestly more CC could work, but in most situations you will likely want a tank to have a more well rounded team. Hence why i gave the edge to Obsidian. However again, I will admit, it was a tough call and I would fault no one for taking Efrigid over Obsidian. Have you considered Sethos recent nerf into that list? Other than that I pretty much agree with everything, Mabyn is definitely much more superior than Efrigid due to her insane respawn time and her jack in the box ability, not to mention her air stopping power too.
Got both of them on the tournament along with Smoulder and the amount of CC I got is unreal, the only drawback is that I feel like Smoulder is pretty much underwhelming, and since I haven't gotten to Gold tournament just yet world 3 is still locked for me.On another note, I can't believe how useless Hogan is. First time using this hero was when I started the game and didn't think too much about it. Then I had the privilege of trying him again on the daily trial (where you try to complete the stage with given hero) and by the god that guy is the most useless fuck I've ever seen. Even Fee is a lot better than him, and I wonder what goes on the dev's mind when they created him. Should've made him a free hero along with Fee and Lancelot tbh.edit: also can the mod, and consider sticking this thread?. I did make a brief reference to the recent Sethos nerf in the Holy Trinity section on Sethos.
Even given that, without a doubt Sethos is still the best overall tank. That combined with good dps and rapid mobility (via Burrow) makes him extremely useful. However I too feel a shift being made in the game where tanks appear to be becoming marginal figures. In the basic game/levels, tanks are still amazing (which is what this guide is largely aimed at), however at the highest levels of tournament play, tanks are becoming marginal. Helios and Mabyn are your main go-to's for tournaments, and more and more the highest levels of play favor the Blessed Hero over a tank. Hero level does make a big difference, but what hero is being used is also a big difference. Generally you want to use whatever hero is Blessed.
So right now as Efrigid is blessed, if you have her, you should use her as that's a big boost. The guide I wrote is for overall and does not take Tournaments into effect. Ideally for tournaments you would have access to every hero to use them when blessed, however this isn't always true. If a very good hero (such as Efrigid, Smoulder, Mabyn, etc. Is blessed you need to use that character to rank high).
If it's a lesser hero, you'll probably be ok. Two weeks ago the blessed hero was Hogan.
I chose not to use him and went with Sethos instead and I still ranked #1 in my group.
Hi.I am pretty New to this game (just finished World 2) and now I want to enter W3. Therefor I am saving gems to buy my 6th Hero.
I already read some other topics on Reddit, and frequently people are giving advices like 'save gems, level up your good heroes to 25' etc.Now my, propably very foolish, question: how do I Level them up to such a high Level? I am gaining very less EXP by battles, because I already finished all Level twice. Are these pink crystals the only way left to get EXP?Thanks for your answers.
